ORTOVOX SAFETY SESSIONS - Avalanche Terrain and Tour Planning

In this unique, hands-on clinic from ORTOVOX, participants learn to identify avalanche terrain and conditions and best practices for creating touring plans that manage avalanche risk. Participants form touring groups of 4-5 and through guided exercises use a 3d mountain model to simulate a touring route that fits their group’s risk tolerance.

ORTOVOX’s Safety Academy 3D Mountain model (SAM3d) is used as an interactive learning tool to simulate avalanche terrain and tour planning. Participants learn how to identify avalanche terrain, interpret an avalanche forecast, apply the forecast to their mountain model, and in the end will draw and explain their route on the model.
