About this Event
Building upon the foundational knowledge from Orisa 101, this class offers a deeper exploration of the Ifa Orisa tradition, delving into some intricacies of the concepts, rituals, and the interconnectedness of Orisa, Ori, and the Ancestors. Participants will review key teachings from Orisa 101 to reinforce understanding, then dive into the unique characteristics, roles, and energetic alignments of some of the major Orisa. This session will also cover the do's and don'ts of personalized altars, shrines, offering practices, and practical ways to integrate Orisa teachings into daily life.
By the end of Orisa 102, students will gain practical tools for spiritual alignment, a deeper relationship with their Ori, and insights into how the Orisa can guide their personal and community journeys.
About Your Host
Janiqwa "Iya J." Nganga is an initiated priestess of several African traditional spiritual systems. Within the Ifa Orisa system of Yoruba spirituality, she is initiated to four Orisha which are Orunmila, Oshun, Yemowo, and Egbe. She is also a traditional Kongo priestess initiated to her personal ancestors of the Bateke tribe and the Mpungu spirit known as Nsasi.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, and raised in the Gullah Geechee low country, she includes much of her cultural background into her spiritual practices. She formally started out as a Hoodoo practitioner, next trained as a Spiritualist in Espiritismo and then progressed from there into priesthood.
With over 20 years of Engineering and Software Development experience, Iya J. used her skills to develop her very own app called Hoodoo Spirit, which was the first of its kind and available to the public from 2018 to 2021. She has worked with hundreds of women from around the world, guiding them on spiritual development, womb healing, and connection to the Divine Feminine/Goddess energy. Iya J. has launched several humanitarian projects aimed at bridging the gap between the Kongo and the African diaspora. She has also created a journal and a ritual prompt book as part of her series, "The Goddess Memoirs".
