About this Event
Making Things x A.MANO Brooklyn!
A Functional Origami Workshop and Book Signing.
In this workshop, 'Making Things' authors, Erin Boyle and Rose Pearlman, will walk you through three simple ways to transform common household papers (magazines, kids drawings, flyers, calendars, etc) into beautiful functional boxes and folders. These versatile, functional origami objects are perfect for organization, storage, and gift giving while the streamlined technique is easy to follow and remember. This class is open to all skill levels and abilities. All materials will be provided and finished objects are for keeps. Signed books will be available for purchase. Refreshments and light bites will be served. Come sip and fold with us!
The Artists
Erin Boyle
Erin Boyle is the writer and photographer behind Reading My Tea Leaves. She’s a minimalist with a penchant for a good story and a soft spot for an aged patina. Her approach to living simply is one that acknowledges that life isn’t always simple, but the curtains can be.
Erin grew up in a house full of sisters on the Connecticut shoreline. She studied history as an undergrad at Sarah Lawrence College and has a master’s in public humanities from Brown University. Past work in historic and cultural preservation informs her desire to cherish what is beautiful, useful, and meaningful. Time spent living in an apartment with a footprint of just 173 square feet taught her to reevaluate everything else.
Erin’s first book, Simple Matters, came out in January, 2016. It’s a nod to the growing consensus that living simply and purposefully is more sustainable not only for the environment, but for our own happiness and well-being, too. Erin embraces the notion that “living small” is beneficial and accessible to us all—whether we’re renting a tiny apartment or purchasing a three-story house.
Erin lives in New York City with her husband James and their three children.
Rose Pearlman
Rose Pearlman is an artist, teacher, and textile designer. With a background in fine arts and a love of well designed functional objects, her creations blur the lines between art and craft and pushes the boundaries with non-traditional techniques and materials. Rose teaches monthly rug hooking workshops in and around her home in NYC, and also welcomes commissions for one-of-a-kind constructions in decor and home furnishings. Her work has been featured in fiber magazines, galleries, and numerous online design sites. Her book, Modern Rug Hooking, was published with Roost Books in 2019. She lives in Brooklyn, NY with her family.
