Tansi! Welcome all ages! National Day of Truth & Reconciliation on Roncesvalles: FRIDAY SEPT 30th
This year we welcome Toronto's recent Apology for its active roles in quashing the Métis Resistance in the 1880's, which ushered in an era of trauma and racism.
We begin at 5:30 pm at the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden where we gather to commemorate indigenous children who did not return home from Canadian residential schools, with stories, a moment of silence, and music: at 2201 Dundas Street West.
At 5:55 pm, the second annual Orange Shirt Walk starts. The walking distance is 1 km, and takes 15 minutes, down to Roncesvalles United Church: at 240 Roncesvalles Avenue.
Inside, see artifacts from the fur trade and Métis history. Have a snack.
At 6:30 pm, join in to celebrate a new era of righting wrongs, with Métis historian Virginia Barter, Métis Elder Senator Suzanne Brunelle, and spirited Métis musicians of the Delbaere-Sawchuk family.
All events are free.
Donations will be collected to support Native Child & Family Services Toronto.
Sponsored by Roncesvalles Village BIA.
Organized by:
Roncesvalles United Church,
Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden,
Reconciliation Roncesvalles.
