About this Event
The Environmental Protection Act 1994 (Qld) (EP Act) allows, under specific circumstances, all or part of a final void to be regarded as a non-use management area (NUMA) in a Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure plan, that is, as an area that cannot be rehabilitated to a stable condition. However, the EP Act still requires NUMAs to be managed in a way that achieves best practice management and minimises risk to the environment. Geotechnical stability is one aspect of leading practice management.
The Office of the Queensland Mine Rehabilitation Commissioner recently published leading practice advice on the topic in the form of the Practice Note ‘Geotechnical stability of final voids as NUMAs’. This seminar will highlight the key insights from this work, including an overview of the components involved in a leading practice assessment of the long-term geotechnical stability of a mining void designated as a NUMA. You will have a chance to hear from two of the paper’s authors, Sue Henderson and Greg Kennedy, and discuss with them the paper and its application.
