OPTION: Sarah Clausen

Experimental Sound Studio presents saxophonist Sarah Clausen.

Sarah will be performing songs from a new collection of work based on the experience of being both a musician and a laborer. The pieces focus on finding beauty and curiosity in the mundaneity, repetitiveness, and humility of work, combining workplace samples, ambient drones, and processed saxophone improvisation.

This performance and interview are presented in the ESS garden, and will be premiered online on ESS's YouTube.

The OPTION series is curated by Ken Vandermark, Lily Finnegan, and Andrew Clinkman.

Sarah Clausen is a saxophonist, composer and educator based in Chicago, IL.

Utilizing space, unique melodic content, and diverse textures, Sarah has developed an approach to improvisation and composition that is forward moving, and inspired by many musical traditions. While completing her Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Performance at Northern Illinois University, Sarah studied under renowned Chicago Saxophonist Geof Bradfield, and has had the opportunity to work with artists such as Anna Webber, Jon Finlayson, Maria Grand, Jon Irabagon, John O’Gallager, James Falzone, and Greg Ward.

OPTION is an ongoing music salon curated by Chicago musicians Andrew Clinkman, Lily Finnegan, and Ken Vandermark and presented by Experimental Sound Studio. Its programming explores contemporary perspectives on improvisation and composition in a 'salon' format, enabling local, national, and international artists to publicly discuss their practice and ideas as well as perform.
