Guitars from Alan Jackson, Dennis Quaid and more could be yours during the “Operation: Stars, Stripes and Strings” charity event, in support of veterans suffering from PTSD. Produced by the StellaNova Foundation, this fundraiser will support veterans with PTSD in Houston.
OVERVIEW:
A collection of celebrity autographed and artist adorned guitars will be up for grabs during a charity fundraising event titled “Operation: Stars, Stripes, and Strings”. Produced by the StellaNova Foundation, the funds raised will support this local nonprofit’s mission to provide funding for organizations that support responsible mental healthcare to those in need.
September is Suicide Prevention Month. Did you know that approx. 20 veterans die by suicide every day in the US? Help us give back to those who have served our country. The Foundation has chosen Guitars for Vets as its beneficiary for this event, with the purpose of installing a Houston chapter for this nationally heralded program for veterans with PTSD.
The collection of guitars will be available online beginning at noon on September 20 at www.StellaNovaFoundation.org, followed by two open-to-the-public events held on September 22 and September 28.

Events are open to the public at no charge. Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards accepted.
ABOUT THE GUITARS:
Featuring instruments donated by a variety of musicians, along with local artists, the event will feature autographed guitars from Alan Jackson, Night Ranger, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and more.
Movie buffs will take interest in series of six guitars, each hand-painted with artist Tra’ Slaughter’s interpretations of movie roles played by Dennis Quaid. A Houston native, this actor/musician recently autographed all six of these guitars while promoting his new film, Reagan, in Austin.
Rock-N-Roll fans will enjoy a BuzzFest guitar signed by Bush, Godsmack, Live, Our Lady Peace and others.
Latin Grammy winners Banda Los Recoditos have provided an autographed acoustic guitar.
Rounding out the collection, from which donors at various levels may take their pick, are creations by visual artists Taft McWhorter, Joni Zavitsanos and Deasa Turner, all from Houston.
DATES/LOCATIONS:
Beginning at noon on September 20th, interested parties may view the entire collection of guitars and make their respective donations online at StellaNovaFoundation.org/.
The guitars will be on display during the charity event, which will be held over two weekends. The first date is on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 11 am to 5 pm at Christian’s Tailgate (5114 Kirby Drive). The second event date is on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 1 pm to 5 pm at Hardy & Nance Studios (902 Hardy Street).
ABOUT GUITARS FOR VETS
Over the past several years, G4V has refined a guitar instruction program aimed at providing Veterans struggling with physical injuries, PTSD, and other emotional distress. G4V pursues its mission to share the healing power of music by providing free guitar instruction, a new acoustic guitar and a guitar accessory kit in a structured program run by volunteers, primarily through the Department of Veterans Affairs health care systems and community-based outpatient clinics. Founded in 2007, this non-profit organization operates more than 150 chapters nationwide, with the help of over 1,000 volunteers. Soon, Houston veterans will be among those able to benefit from these resources.
ABOUT STELLANOVA FOUNDATION
StellaNova Foundation is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to support organizations providing service to Houstonians experiencing mental health issues who may not have access to, or resources for, care and treatment. Founded in 2020 by veteran broadcaster and marketing consultant Doug Harris, the Foundation’s 2024 beneficiaries include Guitars 4 Vets, The Purple Heart Project, AHEPA Service Dogs for Warriors, the Montrose Center and Healthcare for the Homeless - Houston, among others. The Foundation and its mission are funded by donations from the public and private sector, as well as the proceeds of special events staged for that purpose.
In May of 2024, The StellaNova Foundation’s fundraising efforts netted over $60,000, which was divided evenly between Healthcare for the Homeless - Houston and the Montrose Center. With the Foundation’s attention now focused on veterans who are experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other combat-related disabilities, Harris has authorized distributions to AHEPA Service Dogs for Warriors ($10,000) and The Purple Heart Project ($5,000). An initial amount of $15,000 has been donated by the Foundation to G4V, with plans to raise the additional funds needed to create an active G4V chapter in Houston. An estimated $50,000 will be needed for this purpose and that is the goal Harris has set for the StellaNova Foundation’s “Operation: Stars, Stripes, and Strings”.
