Jubilee is collaborating with Loaves and Fishes (loavesandfisheslansing.org) to serve people at risk for becoming homeless.
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is a model that combines low-barrier affordable housing, health care, and supportive services to help individuals and families lead more stable lives. PSH typically targets people who are homeless or otherwise unstably housed, experience multiple barriers to housing, and are unable to maintain housing stability without supportive services. (from nhchc.org)
It's well understood by professionals that PSH is an important part of reducing homelessness, however there is currently no PSH available in Lansing. Jubilee is creating a community-sourced Permanent Supportive Housing program. We will be connecting with people that have recently overcome homelessness and building relationships with them. We will work to gain their trust, and help them maintain their housing. Next, we will connect them with effective support and transformative opportunities.
It will take an army of dedicated mentors and volunteers with diverse talents and skills to do this work! If your personal life and personal relationships are reasonably stable, and you're dependable, WE NEED YOU! Whatever your talent, skill, or passion is, there is a way it can be utilized to make a difference in the lives of those struggling with housing insecurity!
WHAT TO EXPECT: Our founder will share the inspiration behind Jubilee, as well as our mission, vision, goals, and strategy. Together we will watch a short but provacative and humorous video that will poignantly put us in touch with the reality of living in poverty and being at risk for homelessness. We will build relationships with each other, discover our strengths, and learn together about how we can make an impact in our community! Everyone that attends will get a chance to share a little about themselves, their interest in helping end homelessness, and their skills, talents, and assets. We plan to continue hosting these meetings on the first Sunday of each month.
***Sorry, this is not a drop-in event! Please arrive on time. For security reasons, the doors will be locked at 6:15. This is the policy of the facility, and we must work within their parameters.
