About this Event
Nearly 350 years ago, British composer Henry Purcell and writer Nahum Tate created an enduring opera that has been performed regularly ever since. With its mixture of solo songs, Greek choruses, French overtures, dances (choreographed by Eliana Steele), and a menacing subplot of witches, it showcases all the early Baroque time period has to offer. The story is that of the sole Trojan survivor of the Trojan War, Aeneas, upon his visit the shore of Carthage, in Northern Africa. There he and the queen of Carthage, Dido, fall in love, but evil forces thwart their happiness and tragedy ensues. The talented MBU opera theatre singers are accompanied by Jody Clegg on harpsichord and LaShae Brown on cello.
