About this Event

Ghiblipedia: The latest book from the Ghibliotheque Team

Join us for an evening of all things Studio Ghibli, where we talk with The Ghibliotheque Authors and Podcast Hosts.

Hosted by the Centre for Creative Futures, part of the Institute for Inclusive Communities and Environments and the School of Design and Creative Industries, we are delighted to welcome the authors of the Ghibliotheque book series, and hosts of the Ghibliotheque Podcast, Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham, for a Q&A session about their media work.

This project has now become a multimedia phenomenon, which now incorporates interviews, film criticism, curation and programming, and book publishing. This event will allow students and staff to gain insights about entering any of these particular career paths, as well as a chance to ask Michael and Jake what insights into animation and filmmaking they have gained over the years, as well as asking questions about their new book, Ghiblipedia.

Michael Leader is a writer and broadcaster whose writing has appeared in Sight & Sound and Little White Lies, and whose voice has appeared on podcasts and radio ranging from Ghibliotheque and Truth & Movies to BBC Front Row and BBC Radio 5. For several years he was Editorial Director for Film4 Online, and Commissioning Editor of the BBC Arts/iPlayer series Inside Cinema and Inside Games, for which he wrote and produced short-form documentaries about, among other things, Studio Ghibli.

Jake Cunningham is a multimedia writer and producer. As well as Ghibliotheque, he has produced podcasts with NBC Universal, Sky, Channel 4 and Prime Video. He discusses film on the BBC World Service and has written and voiced video essays for the BBC and Little White Lies. He has written for Empire, The I and NME among others. His first animated short film as writer and producer, Blue Bottle, made with the BFI, was released in 2021.
