Born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, Don Fullmer has maintained an art studio in the Salt City since 1978. His interest in painting began while attending Hutchinson Community College and he transferred to the University of Kansas with the intention of getting a degree in design. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1974, followed by a Master of Arts in 1976 and then a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Iowa in 1977.
Don Fullmer is a painter whose works are the creative culmination of a lifelong quest and desire for knowledge.
Stylistically, Fullmer’s influences include abstract artists, such as Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Richard Diebenkorn, whose techniques Fullmer experimented with and helped him develop his own artistic process. He also has a passion for printmaking and finds inspiration in the study of culture, history, myth, nature, religion, and science.
Fullmer’s work is not just a formal artistic exercise, but a way for him to visually communicate his thoughts with the wider world.
