Reginald Rousseau Artist Statement

"I make art because I have to. Art is an essential part of my being and an extension of my soul. I FREELY SURRENDER TO MY CREATIVITY AND MY MIGHT IN EVERY ASPECT OF MY LIFE."

Bio

Reginald is a Haitian born, Urban Artist, base in Harlem, NYC.. His world has always been steeped in art, studying "Art & Craft" in the Republic of Haiti, as a child. As a young adult in Harlem NY, he became a self-thought "Graffiti Artist", tagging trains, buildings etc.. After high school he studied "Fine Arts" [figurative drawings, paintings, sculpting and photography] formally at the City College of New York, while pursuing a degree in Architectural Design.

Over the past 20 years Reginald has worked as a Architectural Designer/Technician, Construction Project Manager, Facilities Manager and today as a Real Estate Development, Construction & Management Consultant, through it all, he has always been an Urban Artist first.

Since 2007, he has produced a large and diverse portfolio of artwork including drawings, mixed-media collages paintings, mixed-media assemblages sculptures, digital illustrations, staged photographs and prints. During this period, he also participated in group shows, art competitions, public installations and art fairs as well as organized & financed a number of Pop-Up art exhibitions.

In 2014, he took a sabbatical from the selling of art to focus on developing, creating and completing a number of highly ambitious art series. The themes of these art series focused on "Embracing Our Differences & Celebrating Diversity". Artworks that confronts the issues of race, gender, sexuality & other cultural and societal norms. Additionally, in 2014, he established the Reginald Rousseau Art Projects. A new initiative founded to spearhead a new era in his artistic and creative entrepreneurial development.
