The NCPA Mumbai Dance Season is a month-long celebration of dance, designed to engage the community in collaboration with the city’s vibrant dance fraternity. The season will open with a captivating presentation of folk and creative dance styles, curated by Nivedita Mukherjee and Manisha Jeet. Esteemed troupes from Maharashtra will highlight the vibrancy and cultural richness of traditional folk dances, celebrating their deep-rooted heritage. Theme- Maharashtra ki Lok Gaatha A tribute to Maharashtra’s vibrant and diverse folk traditions, featuring captivating dance forms from regions such as Satara, Vidarbha, Konkan, Vasai (Thane district), and the coastal areas. Nivedita Mukherjee, who graduated from the University of Mumbai, always knew that her true calling was dance. After her initial training in Odissi from Rabindra Atibudhi of Nalanda Dance and Research Centre, Mumbai, she started taking lessons from Jhelum Paranjape and also attended workshops conducted by Kelucharan Mohapatra. She is the founder of Aratrika, an institution dedicated to preserving, teaching, popularising and creating awareness of the ancient and traditional dance forms of India. Manisha Jeet is a Kathak exponent and a disciple of Asha Joglekar. She is a Kathak Visharad, Kathak Alankar and has a Master’s in Performing Arts from the University of Mumbai. She is a researcher and fellow of the Asiatic Society. Jeet is a recipient of several honours and awards. She is a member of the International Dance Congress and has performed at prestigious venues, including the NCPA. Jeet has headed the Performing Arts Department of Rachana Sansad and been the main Kathak instructor at the Nalanda Dance Research Centre. She is the Founder-Director of Manas Cultural Institute.
