In a recent interview, Danielle Winger shared insights into her artistic process and the profound influences that shape her work. "I classify myself more traditional in my influences," Winger reflects, "as being inspired by nature is as old as painting itself is." With a deep reverence for the natural world, Winger finds solace and inspiration in the raw landscapes that surround us. "Memory does play a role in my work," she explains, "but not as a literal reference. I paint from the muscle memory of nostalgia, from experiencing the moods and time of season."

Winger's landscape paintings serve as more than mere representations of nature; they become vessels for metaphor and allegory. "I'm painting longing, and hope," Winger articulates. "The mountain is both metaphor and allegory. We seek out nature because it is the closest tangible thing to the Divine." Through her bold and bright color choices, Winger evokes emotion and fantasy, transforming her canvases into vibrant tapestries of the human experience. "Gauguin called color the language of dreams," she notes. "I've long since departed from painting actual place and color has been a great vehicle for that."

"This body of work is a nice progression of what I've done in the past," Winger observes. "I'm more confident now and these paintings have more complicated compositions as a result." Embracing the tactile qualities of canvas, Winger delves deeper into the poetic intimacy of her subjects. "Canvas doesn't give the instant gratification that wood does," she remarks. "The fabric saturates and bleeds in really wonderful ways. I think the work is more poetic, more intimate."
