MAPPING – Laleh Foroughanfar, Stacey deVoe and Tinne Zenner
Exhibition period: June 1–29, 2024
Opening: June 1, 15.00–19.00
Welcome to MAPPING, the first exhibition in “Common Ground”–an exhibition series about aspects of sharing space and ideas, and working together in public environments with a focus on understanding the communities that exist and those that could be found in Malmö.
For this initial exhibition, Celsius Projects has invited artists and researchers who in their own ways relate to methods of tracing and mapping, to calibrating out positions and developing new alternative maps: Laleh Foroughanfar is a postdoc researcher at the Institute for Urban Studies at Malmö University whose PhD thesis explores the transformation of a post-industrial working-class street, namely Norra Grängesbergsgatan in Malmö, emerging from the intersection of de-industrialization, global migration, and urban marginalization. Departing from local urban history with its specific locations, Stacey de Voe creates processings of social issues such as gendered labor, capitalism and class politics, and in her artistic practice searches for different ways to connect with the audience and to add to the local community. And visual artist and filmmaker Tinne Zenner explores the structures of exhibitions and cinema, in which layers of history, geopolitics and collective memory are embedded, lately with a focus on the ongoing neo-colonial and invisible extraction of geological data. Existing works are shown in new ways and in dialogue with each other, in the context of the surrounding industrial area in Katrinelund with small businesses, studio collectives, car mechanics, rehearsal spaces, and artist-run galleries that are all threatened to disappear in the near future. What will the map look like then?
Arranged by Francis Patrick Bradley, Elísabet Anna Kristjánsdóttir, and Janneke Schoene.
The exhibition is supported by Malmö Stad and Kulturrådet.
