Opening and Book Launch - Tan Lip Seng: A Life In Colour

On 8 August 2026, we will be opening Tan Lip Seng: A Life In Colour at Objectifs, together with the launch of a commemorative book dedicated to our father’s photographic legacy.
Dad is remembered by many for his iconic colour photographs and creative darkroom work — images from his heyday that became closely associated with his name, and with the development of art photography in Singapore.
But he also wanted very much to share the photographs he made in more recent years, during his period of recuperation. These works mattered deeply to him. He wanted people to see that he had continued to grow beyond what he was famous for, and that his way of seeing had continued to evolve.
Photography remained part of his daily life and his way of connecting with the world. He continued to take pictures, to look closely, and to share what he saw with others — not as a return to the past, but as a continuation of a lifelong journey.
Alongside the better-known works, this exhibition includes some of these later photographs — quieter perhaps, but no less personal. They show an artist still drawn to colour, reflection, light, and form; still curious; still creating; still seeing.
For us as a family, this is more than an exhibition. It is a way of honouring the father and grandfather who taught us to wait for light, to look carefully, and to keep seeing beauty in the world around us.
