Mette Hartung Kirkegaard (DK) praktiserer gennem sine værker en responsiv tilgang til verden. Hun bruger fotografiet til at forbinde sig til sine omgivelser for derefter at forlænge de øjeblikke ved hjælp af installation, skulptur og alternativt maleri. Kirkegaards arbejde er som oftest stedsspecifikt og undersøger emner som empati, nærvær og fortrolighed – i denne udstilling belyst gennem forholdet mellem fotograf og motiv.
A Room Full of Love sætter fokus på selve fotograferings-situationen eller shootet: Den seance, hvor fotografen interagerer med sine omgivelser for at finde og skabe fotografier. Under ferniseringen vil Kirkegaard iscenesætte et shoot som en fotografisk performance, hvor hun fotograferer i udstillingsrummet og mellem besøgende. Undervejs har publikum mulighed for at se billederne på en storskærm og på den måde følge hendes blik gennem rummet.
Værkerne i A Room Full of Love reflekterer Kirkegaards oplevelser i mødet med først motiverne, dernæst fotografierne og til sidst selve udstillingsrummet. De viser, hvordan fotografi kan være en måde at knytte sig til sine omgivelser på, samt hvordan et billede består af både det fysisk konkrete og det personligt filtrerede.
Mette Hartung Kirkegaard er uddannet fra kunstakademiet i Göteborg (HDK-Valand), hvorfra hun har en MFA i Fine Art Photography. Hun har udstillet på kunsthaller i Blekinge og Göteborg samt gennemført flere store midlertidige udendørs værker i Danmark. A Room Full of Love er hendes første soloudstilling i København.
Through her works, Mette Hartung Kirkegaard (DK) adopts a responsive approach to the world. She uses photography to connect with her surroundings, and then extends those moments through installation, sculpture and alternative painting. Kirkegaard’s work is usually site-specific and explores themes such as empathy, presence and intimacy – in this exhibition, illuminated through the relationship between photographer and subject.
A Room Full of Love focuses on the photographic situation or the shoot itself: the session in which the photographer interacts with her surroundings to find and create photographs. During the opening, Kirkegaard will stage a shoot as a photographic performance, in which she photographs within the exhibition space and amongst visitors. Throughout, the audience will have the opportunity to view the images on a large screen and thus follow her gaze through the space.
The works in A Room Full of Love reflect Kirkegaard’s experiences in encountering first the subjects, then the photographs, and finally the exhibition space itself. They demonstrate how photography can be a way of connecting with one’s surroundings, as well as how an image consists of both the physically concrete and the personally filtered.
Mette Hartung Kirkegaard graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gothenburg (HDK-Valand), where she obtained an MFA in Fine Art Photography. She has exhibited at art galleries in Blekinge and Gothenburg and has created several large-scale temporary outdoor installations in Denmark. A Room Full of Love is her first solo exhibition in Copenhagen.
