D-Day at 80: Remembering the Normandy Landings of June 1944

6th June 2024 saw the 80th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy, with an outpouring of commemorative events at home and abroad. Many of the wartime events surrounding D-Day are by now well known, popularised through books, films and TV shows, but new and diverse accounts of individual courage, effort and sacrifice continue to emerge.

In this talk, Dr Frances Houghton brings to light under-recognised stories to remember how women, Commonwealth troops and non-combatants contributed to the success of the Allies’ Normandy landings in June 1944.
