The former flax mill and original Ouseburn studio space is opening over five floors with 20 creatives showing their work as part of Ouseburn Open Studios. A Space for Emerging and Established Talent
The OPEN programme at 36 Lime Street continues to be a vital platform for both emerging and established artists. In the past year, the gallery has hosted eight solo exhibitions from artists at various stages of their careers, offering them a space to experiment and showcase new work.
The building also fosters community engagement with an extensive calendar of collaborative events. In 2023-2024, they partnered with local schools, charities, and universities, creating opportunities for students, children, and the public to experience art through workshops and exhibitions. From the Baton of Hope exhibition highlighting suicide prevention to a film project with Newcastle University, these events serve as a bridge between the arts and the wider community.
A Creative Hub
As a charitable organisation, 36 Lime Street is dedicated to supporting artistic practice in the North East. They offer affordable studio spaces, community workshops, and public exhibitions, all within this historic building. The studio group has ambitious plans for the future, including the launch of an artist residency programme in 2025 and ongoing efforts to make the building more accessible for all.
