Workshop and Open Studio with Jack Tilson Ceramics
Sunday December 12, 10am - 1pm
Studio visit, New Lynn.
Jack Tilson is an artist who lives in New Lynn, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland). He studied art at the Dunedin School of Art and completed a Master of Fine Arts at Elam School of Fine Arts in 2015. Digging, drying and hand crushing clay with a wooden stick starts the making process. Jack's kiln is made from house bricks. It burns wood to generate the heat required. Jack regularly exhibits and runs ceramics workshops in different contexts. Recently Jack established a Wood Fired Pottery School in New Lynn for teaching the art of fire to beginners and intermediate level makers. Here the whole process can be experienced from clay site through to fired object. Mugs, jugs and mixing bowls, objects for everyday life. Every cup is a story.
Jack acknowledges local iwi Te Kawarau ā Maki, mana whenua of the Waitakere Ranges and of the whenua where his kiln currently rests.
