Open Studio and Storytelling weekend with nimkii at KOAC
About this Event
Join us on Saturday August 29th, and/or Sunday August 30th at KOAC for an Open studio and storytelling weekend with Artist-in-Residence, nimkii as they share their research that has happened during their residency. This event takes place over both days of the weekend (10am until 4pm) for an opportunity to have close conversations with the artist: take your time and pull up a chair for a cup of tea and visit for the afternoon at KOAC.
There is also a two-hour closing reception with snacks and non-alcoholic drinks available on Sunday August 30th from 2pm - 4pm. Guests are invited to visit the studio between August 29th and 30th at a time suitable to them to meet nimkii and share story-driven conversations about the artist's works in progress.
As a storyteller, nimkii weaves stories that bridge gaps between liberation and social justice movements, with a focus on queer histories, environmentalism, present day politics and colonialism. They approach their work through a careful two-eyed-seeing lens, placing these histories and truths into personal, understandable and digestible realities into conversation with each other through narrative. During their residency, they have been making drawings and ceramic sculptures that explore the relationship between memory and violence.
Visitors to KOAC and this event are welcome to drop in, or register ahead of time - we ask that visitors park in our main lot directly off of Horizon View Road, and walk along a gravel road towards the artist residency studio space. It will be the first building on the left.
