Lift You Up presents Griot’s Den Open Mic!
What is a Griot?
A griot is a member of traveling poets, musicians and storytellers that maintained and passed down the tradition of oral history in parts of West Africa. The griot was responsible for the record of deaths, births, marriages, wars lost, and those won. Every aspect of African culture was carried in their hearts and brought forth through spoken word and dance much like we do when we speak our truth.
Griot’s Den is a venue that aims to keep that tradition alive through spoken word poets, The Griots of Our Time.
In collaboration with Red@28th, Griot’s Den presents to the public a space where OUR stories are told by US for the uplifting of US. So come out and enjoy various styles of poetry and art at Griot’s Den! Join us on April 6th at 8p for the first show!
