Short Film Screenings + Live DJ Set + Community Q&A
Join Bulbancha Liberation Radio for an evening of radical media, resistance, and real-world solutions to disaster communication and cultural preservation. This dynamic event features two short films exploring the power of off-grid and community-run radio networks.
The first film—by Anarchivist—spotlights the grassroots work of Monique and Govinda, who use solar-powered, decentralized communication systems to serve communities during hurricanes, environmental crises, and moments of resistance. A live Q&A with the featured media makers will follow, offering insight into their experiences on the ground and the critical role of resilient networks.
The second film dives into the legacy of Stephen Dunifer, the legendary founder of Free Radio Berkeley and the godfather of pirate radio. His work paved the way for generations of media activists—including Govinda, who will also be spinning records before, between, and after the films.
This event also marks the public introduction of WPNX, a local Low Power FM (LPFM) project. After the screenings, we’ll host a brief community conversation about our upcoming launch and how you can get involved in shaping independent media in Pensacola.
The Q&A will be loosely formatted like a live radio broadcast, complete with interviews and music, and will be recorded for the 309 Punk Archive and future LPFM broadcast.
Come for the films, stay for the music, and be part of the future of community radio. We’ve got two turntables and a microphone—see you there.
