Open Day at the Fashion Museum

Hui Auaha o Aotearoa - Open Day at the Fashion Museum is our contribution to the Global Fashioning Assembly 2024 (GFA24), a gathering of global fashion makers that reaches across disciplines and geographical boundaries around the globe to recognise how diverse fashion is. It is an ongoing conversation.

You are invited to join the New Zealand Fashion Museum on Saturday 12 October 2024 as we occupy a physical space at the Auckland Central Library for a day of shared hands-on activities that take you behind our online presence and mahi. The day offers you first hand experience of the museum’s exhibition making, opportunities to engage with our values and kaupapa, and an invitation to join in our participatory workshops that include archival researching, collection preparation, documenting, building relationships with our clothing and above all, storytelling. 

Participation in this event is free thanks to the support of Auckland Council and the city centre targeted rate.

The New Zealand Fashion Museum is a digital first museum that provides a platform and umbrella for all things fashion in Aotearoa (New Zealand). With no fixed physical location or collection, its activities and stories are developed in response to the concerns of the day and the questions and needs of its audiences. Our primary source for all content is the community. This makes for a collaborative and multi-vocal museum model, bringing together objects and knowledge held by individuals and by working with institutions like libraries, universities, and museums to share their collections, archives, and their spaces.
