OPEN CALL Micro-art residencies “Practices for the future”
DanceRemainings invite movement-based artists (from dance, performance or other discipline) to apply for the week-long micro-residencies “Practices for the future”. The residencies will take place at Röda Sten Konsthall during week 25-34, along with the Summer exhibition 2024. Both local, national and international artists are welcome to apply.
The ending of a world doesn't always lead to the beginning of a new one. Nonetheless endings demark a notion of a moment of stillness, a void, a stoppage in time for what's coming; for the new. This is a prospect that is not foreign to us in today's global narrative of impending dooms. And yet, in 'apocalypses' there is an underlying sense of revelation, if not of what is to come, of what ceased to be in harmony, or to be in rule.
The micro-residences “Practices for the future” works from the possibilities of resets, returns that are not erasures or setbacks, but approaches to blanks, voids, emptiness, and not-knowing that are more likely a ‘not-there-yet’, as opportunities for artistic approaches to reorder and transmute the familiar, the known.
In what ways are today’s movement and live arts situating themselves in relation to reading ‘apocalypses’ either as endings or as beginnings, as neither or as both?
Over the weekly residencies the selected artists will be able to inhabit the space with their practice within a designated open space (ca. 7x7 m) on a linoleum floor with a soft underlayer, placed within Katedralen, the main room of the gallery. The selected artists are not constrained to this particular area but encouraged to dialogue with the visitors and other ongoing exhibitions in the art gallery by Max Ockborn, Patrik Bengtsson and Cha Blasco. Contact and interaction with the visitors is appreciated in any form. Each artist residency ends with a scheduled public activity.
Artists will have access to the gallery from Tuesday to Sunday opening hours.
Residency is remunerated. Covered housing for non-local artists.
