WHERE: Cookeville Performing Arts Center.
(Use Artist Entrance on lower level facing Dogwood Park. Look for the door with a small metal awning)
WHAT TO EXPECT: Please arrive on time. Your audition will consist of cold readings from the script while paired with other auditionees.
NOTE: Perusal scripts will be available at the Performing Arts Center June 21, 24, 25 9am-5pm.
PERFORMANCE DATES: August 16, 17,18, 20, 22, 23, 24 2024. You must also be available every night the week of August 11-16 for dress rehearsals.
THE STORY – Eve Wilfong, who lives over the “Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music Bar,” is paid a visit by her niece Catherine Empanger, a novice nun who’s been asked to leave her convent. It seems Catherine suffers from a curious compulsion to yell obscenities at the wrong moment, and even, on occasion, bark like a dog. Roy, an honest if simple fellow from the bar downstairs, wants to court Catherine whether she’s a nun or not. Eve feels she should give her niece the benefit of her experiences with men before allowing her to venture back into the mad modern country world. What follows is not simply comic and well-observed, but romantic and affecting as well.
CHARACTERS
Catherine Empanger – (20’s) a novice nun on retreat.
Eve (Eva June) Wilfong – (30-50) Catherine’s aunt who lives above and is manager of a bar called Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music.
Jason (Jay Bob) Wilfong – (15) Eve’s teenage son
Jim Stool – (40-50) Owner of the bar and a biker who gave up his bike to appease Eve, his one true love.
Roy Manual – (20-30) An urban cowboy who falls for Catherine.
