Open Auditions

We're now accepting new singers for our 2023-2024 season! Palmetto Youth Choir is open to ALL students in grades 1-12 who love to sing! We are not affiliated with any school or church. No experience or preparation is required!

Our choir is divided into groups based on experience and ability, as determined by a simple audition. The audition is easy and casual. You will likely be in a small group, but we will also listen to individual voices. Singers will be asked to sing scales and pitch-matching exercises. They can also sing Happy Birthday, or a song of their choice if they'd like, but no need to prepare anything. And no need to be nervous. We promise! Auditions are a simple vocal assessment that help place singers in the best choir for their skillset.

Auditions are at our rehearsal space, James Island Arts & Cultural Center, at 1248 Camp Rd. 29412. Plan to be there for 20-30 minutes.

​​ A Few Tips

• Warm up your vocal cords on the way by singing your favorite song in the car.
• Take slow, deep breaths, and show us confidence and a smile!
• Do your best. We know you might be nervous, and how that effects the voice. We've been there!
• Be courteous, respectful and follow any directions given by the directors.
• Show us your personality and passion for music.

Based in Charleston SC, at the James Island Arts & Cultural Center, Palmetto Youth Choir provides singers in grades 1-12 with choral music education and performance experience while inspiring a lifelong love of singing and music. This choir is a premier group of young singers working together to build choral skills and musicianship, while having fun and providing connection and community!

We explore an eclectic range of musical styles, and foster a fun, friendly and creative atmosphere. We believe music can bring profound inspiration to those who wish to make the world a better place.

Our artistic and educational goals are:
