Workshop with HELENE at Oslo Oriental Dance Festival 2022- DANCING TO LIVE MUSIC (2h) -
In this unique class we will explore how to dance to live music, focusing on the tabla solo and the magic of the taqsim.
How can you anticipate what’s coming next in a a tabla solo, and what do you do if you don’t know what to do??
What movements are compatible with the sound of the nay and the oud, and why do certain performances speak to you and just fit the music perfectly?
We will dive into the different layers in a tabla solo, different taqsims and how you to dance to them.
When this class is over you will leave with a set of tools that will be helpful both in improvisation and in making your own choreography.
Note - this is not a dance technique class. We will work within the frames of each dancers existing vocabulary.
The Al-Saadi brothers are accompanying Helene for this workshop and you can look forward to the opportunity to practise to acoustic tabla, ney and oud.
What you can expect in this workshop:
- Two hours dance training to live music in the safe learning frames of the studio
- A relaxed atmosphere to fully explore and connect to live music
- Guided improvisation with Helene and the Al-Saadi brothers
- An understanding of the layers of a tablasolo
- How to dance to a taqsim
- Introduction to a selection of widely used rhythms

På dette unike kurset vil vi utforske hvordan man danser til levende musikk, med fokus på tabla-soloen og magien i en taqsim.
Hvordan kan du forutse hva som kommer i en tabla-solo, og hva gjør du hvis du ikke vet hva du skal gjøre??
Hvilke bevegelser er kompatible med lyden av nay og oud, og hvorfor appellerer visse opptredener til deg mer og er bare en perfekt match til musikken?
Vi vil dykke dypere i de forskjellige lagene i en tabla-solo, høre på forskjellige taqsims og se på hvordan du kan danse til dem.
Når dette kurset er over vil du ha et sett med verktøy som vil være nyttige både i improvisasjon og til å lage din egen koreografi.
Merk - dette er ikke en danseteknikktime. Vi vil jobbe innenfor rammene av hver danseres eksisterende vokabular.
Al-Saadi-brødrene akkompagnerer oss i dette kurset, og du kan se frem til muligheten til å danse til akustisk tabla, ney og oud.
