ONS Youth Leadership Council 2024 Youth Summit!

The ONS Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is an initiative that brings together 65 youth leaders from 30 NYCHA developments across New York City. Council members are positioned as advocates for safety in their communities through leadership and skill development, research, community engagement, and a series of community projects.

Over the last 9 months, participants have partaken in community learning and understanding, engagement in fieldwork, mobilizing with community leaders, and the call to action of youth in their communities to explore issues that are critical to community safety and well-being.

Using their skills and experience, the Council prioritized core community change recommendations for youth and launched their second participatory budgeting process.

Throughout the summer, members of the YLC engaged their peers across the city to vote on a ballot with 4 projects and gathered over 1,800 votes! This year's winning project focuses on Art and Public Space Activation.

The Summit will feature :

• A youth-led presentation taking you through the findings and work accomplished over the past 9 months with the 2024 ONS YLC Cohort.
• Conversations with ONS YLC members, youth groups from across the city, key policy leaders, and local partner organizations!
• Workshops on safety and justice, health and wellbeing, economic stability, and physical space
• Free food, music, and giveaways!

We believe that empowering youth to be a part of the decision-making process in their communities has positive effects on both them as individuals and the communities they live in.
