ONLINE Art Discussion: Reading Pictures - Joy

Join Mulberry Street and New Amsterdam Library staff for our second edition of Reading Pictures, an informal art and art history discussion group. This month, our theme will be Joy.

Art is usually imbued with a sense of gravity, but it’s also important to make room for art that depicts, meditates on, or expresses joy. As much of a human emotion as pain, anger, or sadness, joy is often more elusive to accurately and authentically impart to the viewer. In this session, we’ll discuss the work of Yayoi Kusama, Sheila Hicks, Kenojuac Ashevak, children’s book illustrators of some of our favorite classic and contemporary books, and many more. No preparation or reading necessary. This session will be held via Google Meet.
