A Freight Original!
One Song All Night is exactly what it sounds like—you'll be hearing one song for the entirety of this performance reimagined by five different Bay Area artists. Delight in hearing the creative ways each artist reinterprets a classic song that you know and love.
Our first One Song All Night spotlights five talented local acts—Hannah Mayree, Mike Blankenship, Anaís Azul, Tammy Hall, and Flex Duo: Bryan Dyer & Dave Worm as they each offer fresh, unexpected interpretations of Prince’s iconic track “Kiss.”
Hannah Mayree (they/them) is a banjoist, multi-instrumentalist, producer and vocalist. Hannah has a body of work that highlights original and traditional banjo compositions through acoustic live vocal looping, harmonies, and community singing/audience involvement. She is the founder of the Black Banjo Reclamation Project, an official partner organization of The Freight.
Mike Blankenship & Dame Drummer
Mike Blankenship is a multifaceted musician, educator, and arts advocate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a world-touring keyboardist and pianist (currently on tour with Michael Franti), Blankenship has performed with iconic artists such as Lauryn Hill, Ledisi, and Sheila E. blending his soulful artistry with a deep passion for collaboration.
Dame Drummer is a singer-songwriter, Grammy-certified producer and award-winning filmmaker dedicated to making high-vibrational music and films that encourage, educate and inspire. In 2022, Dame’s highly acclaimed documentary, “Black Daddy: The Movie” earned 30 awards across 25 film festivals in seven countries and four continents– including five “Best Original Film Score” awards for the soundtrack, “Black Daddy: The Sound.” Dame is an uber-talented lyricist, vocalist and electrifying performer who has toured and collaborated with a host of artists including: Fantastic Negrito, Los Rakas, Martin Luther, the Oakland and San Francisco Symphony and many others.
Anaís Azul (they/them) is a Peruvian-born, California-raised singer-songwriter and educator. Dubbed “the Peruvian Björk” (Bay Times), they produced their debut album Simp’ashani: Canciones Trenzadas (2024) as a Fulbright grantee, blending Quechua, English, and Spanish into experimental Andean songs & soundscapes with vocal looping. They've toured as a performer-educator across Perú, Mexico, Germany, France, and Japan, and performed at Mountain View, California’s first-ever Pride. Anaís is committed to learning from the resistance of colonized people to change the course of history one song at a time.
Tammy Hall began her musical journey in Dallas at age four, nurtured by her community and family, later attending Mills College before leaving to develop her voice through improvisation and performance, including a two‑year stint in Brussels. Since returning to the Bay Area in 1989, she has become a Grammy‑winning pianist, composer, educator, and musical director, collaborating with many distinguished vocalists and ensembles and earning recognition for her musical direction and community contributions.
Flex Duo is Bryan Dyer and David Worm – two musicians utilizing their voices and versatility to create songs with the aid of loopers, percussion and other instruments to create a listening and interactive experience which the listener can be part of – and immersed in. Both Bryan and David are members of Bobby McFerrin’s Motion, which performs every Monday at The Freight as part of the weekly CircleSongs event. Circlesinging, a participatory practice made popular by Bobby McFerrin and his groups, is also a hallmark of performances by Flex Duo.
Bryan S. Dyer is a musician with more than 30 years of professional experience. He’s a versatile multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who performs many styles of music from classical and avant-garde to rock, jazz, and blues. Music has taken Bryan around the world to perform in many countries including Japan, Switzerland, Indonesia, and Jamaica, and alongside such artists as Huey Lewis and The News, Michael McDonald, and Carlos Santana. Some of the groups he currently performs with include SoVoSo, Keith Terry & Crosspulse, The Funk Revival Orchestra, Chelle! & Friends, and Bobby McFerrin & MOTION.
David Worm is an Oakland native who began his singing career in 1985 with the Bay Area groups Jazz Mouth and Vocal Front. In 1989 he became a founding member of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra ensemble and has remained a regular performer with McFerrin, being featured on recordings, including Medicine Music and Vocabularies and touring with McFerrin’s Hard Choral and improvisational group Gimme 5. Currently, Dave is part of McFerrin’s latest project, Bobby McFerrin & MOTION. David is also one of the original founding members of the a-cappella group, SoVoSo, an internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble which has released 6 albums and tours worldwide.
