MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER ONE OF THE
THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN CADETS TO ATTEND WEST POINT
About this Event

Professor Peter J. Boykin, great-great grandson to Johnson Chestnut Whittaker, will provide a lecture about the life of the first African American to matriculate at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Throughout this presentation Professor Boykin will discuss how his great-great grandfather was able to break down the barriers of systemic oppression for the African American people after slavery. Johnson Chestnut Whittaker wanted to prove that African Americans could overcome White Supremacy and succeed as an African American who believed that the United States had the potential to be a nation of equity for all, regardless of race and gender.
