Join us at Abbey House for a one-day workshop with detailed, step-by-step guidance in a small group setting, led by Felicity Tran, an experienced traditional upholsterer and seat weaver. This hands-on workshop offers the opportunity to learn a beautiful heritage craft while creating a practical and enduring piece of furniture.
Throughout the day, Felicity will carefully guide you through each stage of weaving a traditional Basket Weave pattern using sustainable seagrass cord on a solid wooden footstool frame. Techniques are demonstrated clearly, with time allowed to practise at each step, and individual support is readily available whenever needed.
Felicity’s teaching style is friendly, informal and highly attentive, ensuring everyone progresses confidently and at a comfortable pace. Whether you are completely new to seat weaving or have some previous making experience, you will be supported throughout to achieve a strong, neat and professional finish.
Set within the elegant surroundings of Abbey House, the workshop offers a calm and focused environment in which to work, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, refine your technique and enjoy the shared experience of learning alongside a small group of fellow participants.
By the end of the day, you will have completed your own high-quality seagrass footstool to take home, along with the satisfaction of having mastered a traditional craft under expert guidance.
