One Day Acting Masterclass: Comfortable/Uncomfortable with Matti Houghton

This Masterclass is ideal for actors with some training or experience looking to deepen their work . In this workshop we explore the possibility of reacting authentically in the moment, working without a predetermined outcome. We'll examine what impulse actually is, and how to recognise, trust and act on it.

This isn't a session about technique. It's about unlearning the instinct to protect ourselves from failure, discomfort or the unknown, so actors can find out what becomes possible once that instinct is let go. It's for those ready to risk not being "good," in order to expand.

Trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Matti has worked extensively at the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare's Globe throughout her career, playing Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream and appearing in The City Madam, Cardenio, Henry VI and Richard III, before taking on Lady Macbeth in the Globe's 2023 production of Macbeth. She played Cariola opposite Jodie Whittaker in The Duchess (of Malfi) at the Trafalgar Theatre, and received an Offie Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance in Brimstone and Treacle at the Arcola Theatre. Her stage work also includes The Crucible at Manchester Royal Exchange.
