Saturday, September 27 (2 pm): "Field of Dreams" (rated PG) is the story of when Iowa farmer Ray hears a mysterious voice one night in his cornfield saying "If you build it, he will come," he feels the need to act. Despite taunts of lunacy, Ray builds a baseball diamond on his land. Afterward, the ghosts of great players start emerging from the crops to play ball, led by "Shoeless" Joe Jackson.
Thursday, October 8 (6:30 pm): "Wild" (rated R) is the story of Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) who is driven to the edge by the loss of her mother (Laura Dern), the dissolution of her marriage and a headlong dive into self-destructive behavior. She makes a decision to halt her downward spiral and put her life back together again. With no outdoors experience, a heavy backpack and little else to go on but her own will, Cheryl sets out alone to hike the Pacific Crest Trail -- one of the country's longest and toughest through-trails.
Saturday, October 11 (12 pm): "The Wizard of Oz" (rated G) is all about Dorothy's (Judy Garland) adventures in the Land of Oz. The film introduced the classic "Over the Rainbow" which became Garland's signature song.
Saturday, October 18 (2:30 pm): "The Sound of Music" (rated G) starring Julie Andrews is being screened in it's sing along edition. Come and sing along with such favorites as "Do-Re-Mi," "My Favorite Things" and many others.
Thursday, November 6 (6:30 pm): "Forrest Gump" (rated PG-13) is the story of Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) who has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother (Sally Field), he leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. Winner of several Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.
Saturday, November 15 (2:30 pm): "The Thin Man" (rated G) is the classic mystery-comedy of a retired detective who, while spending much of his time managing his wife's considerable fortune is asked to follow the trail of a missing inventor. Although reluctant to interrupt his holiday in Manhattan, he is persuaded to investigate by his wife's craving for adventure, and together they embark upon a case that leads to the disclosure of deception and murder.
Thursday, November 20 (6:30 pm): This screening of "Back to Future" is the special closing event for One City, One Book Cinema. In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is thrown back into the '50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents, and must make sure that they fall in love or he'll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown. We will also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the film. There will be prize drawings for "Back to the Future" merchandise.
