“We won’t forget!” On Saturday June 19, the four ELCA churches in Aurora are joining together, St. Mark's, Our Savior Lutheran, New Hope Lutheran, and Faith Lutheran—in a collaborative worship service to commemorate both the martyrdom of the Emanuel 9 and the celebration of Juneteenth, which honors the 1865 emancipation of Black people in Texas.
Coming together for this service is a visible statement of our shared commitment to anti-racism. We join with our fellow ELCA churches because we feel called to act. We choose to respond to injustices, to call out the sin of racism, to condemn the ideology of white supremacy. Together, we are committed to ELCA’s anti-racism pledge: https://elca.org/racialjusticepledge.
We invite you to come June 19th to this important community service to share lament, pray, and commit to action. It will be a moving and powerful time of worship, and we encourage you to make every effort to be part of it, whether in person or via livestream. The service will be held at 6 p.m. at St. Mark’s and ALL are welcome!
