Omri Smadar draws on his background in classical and jazz composition to create unforgettable listening experiences. He’s dominated dozens of genres over his decade-long career, from gritty Dancehall & Dub to hypnotic 4\4 House & Disco, from psychedelic Indie-Dance to obscure Middle Eastern sounds.
Smadar’s first musical loves were Jazz and Classical, and he dedicated his studies to classical composition theory to understand what makes two notes work well together. The result is an almost scientific approach to DJing, which makes every blend, harmony and melody magnetic. Smadar’s played every major festival in Israel as well as dozens of shows across Europe.
Smadar wrote, produced and self-released his first album when he was just 17, and moved to Tel Aviv after his studies to fully immerse himself in the electronic music scene. After touring the world with Caribbean-fusion sound system Abuya Sound, he returned in 2015 to dedicate his time to play and explore the various sides of underground club music. He released his first vinyl single “Muzika Salim” in 2015 on Ostra Disco, a worldly blend of Middle Eastern and electronic music, followed by series of powerful EPs on Blue Shadow, Hard Fist & Motordiscs.
Smadar’s big musical moment came in 2020 with the release of his first album Collage: An Electronic Tribute to Timeless Israeli Music. The album remixed classic Israeli songs, from New Wave 80s to Yemenite disco to Alternative Rock, and catapulted Smadar to the forefront of the country's music scene. This was followed by his Fragile EP on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant imprint, which won critical acclaim worldwide, including a 9.5* review on Mixmag, inclusion in Jamie **’s BBC Essential Mix, and reached number 1 in Beatport’s Indie Dance charts.
Smadar applies the same diligence to his productions as he does to his DJ sets, taking his listener on a kaleidoscopic journey through his influences, experiences and inspirations. His tracks are played on national radio and in Panorama Bar, showcasing his ability to transcend culture and make music that speaks to the masses as well as the underground.
Now, Smadar’s pushing his creative boundaries in a whole new way through live performance, playing his tunes as part of a 4 piece band with a plethora of guests to bring his most-loved music to life.
Whether he’s DJing, producing or performing, Omri Smadar tells intimate stories through music to form a connection with whoever’s listening, and believes that’s what he was put on this planet to do.
