The public is invited to attend the opening reception for two concurrent exhibits at Jacoby Arts Center on December 5th from 6-8pm at the center located at 208 State Street in historic Downtown Alton, IL. The 8 week OMA (Opening Minds Through Art) program enables people living with dementia to assume new roles as artists and teachers and leaves a legacy of beautiful artwork. People living with dementia are paired with volunteers who are trained to rely on imagination instead of memory and focus on remaining strengths instead of lost skills. Artists select and name the pieces they would like to hang for this exhibition.
We'll also be opening the Little Art Show, a partnership with Hayner Public Library District, that same evening. Community members from all over the region were asked to submit tiny art on 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 mini canvases provided by Hayner Library. The resulting works are breathtakingly beautiful pieces in tiny little packages.
Please join us from 6-8pm on December 5th as we celebrate all our community Artists! Can't make it? Both exhibitions will be on display through Feb 28th. Jacoby Arts Center is open Thurs-Fri-Sat from 12-6 and is a come as you are art environment.
