Come and join the Copenhagen premiere of DUNKEL by the choreographic duo Olivia Rivière and Lisen Pousette.
DUNKEL is the air of a breath, a cloud, a wind, a fleeting moment. DUNKEL is the desire to stay in the dark and let the eyes adjust; to see that there is dusk and dawn, dense night and grey haze. DUNKEL is both doomsday-doom and as light as a down duvet. Because surely it is so, that the brighter the light, the darker the darkness.

In DUNKEL, five dancers enter an ambiguous and suggestive space where alternative vocal practices are embodied. Growling, a dark and aggressive voice used in harder metal music, is taken apart and intertwined with jarring notes and stretched sounds. DUNKEL is a performance that reaches out for the vast and embraces the falling.

It is the continuation of Olivia Rivière and Lisen Pousette’s choreographic work departing from the sonorous body, which was initiated in the piece Ever losing (2019).

BIO:
Lisen Pousette (SE) is graduated from the BA in Dance at ArtEZ, Arnhem (2016) and the MA in Choreography at DOCH (2019). In both her own and others’ work she explores voice-body practices through the most subtle to the most extreme vocal forms. Her latest engagement was in the queer opera performance Dryppende Stof at Glyptoteket, choreographed by Jules Fischer, composed by Matilde Böcher and libretto from poet Mette Moestrup’s new translation of Sappho’s fragments. She is co-initiator of P0$$E a dance and reading group: an open-ended study circle for practitioners within contemporary dance and other curious ones, which engages with critical practices and with generating discourse through doing. PO$$E started in Stockholm and now have satellite groups now in Copenhagen, Melbourne and soon Montreal.
Together with Olivia, Lisen has presented her work at venues such as Les Urbaines (Lausanne), Vega (Copenhagen), Inkonst (Malmö), Østre (Bergen), Fylkingen, Weld and MDT (Stockholm).

Olivia Rivière (SE) is a choreographer/dancer based in Copenhagen. In her practice she works with alternative vocal-techniques exploring the materiality of emotions, our private things and their sensorial influence. This has been played out in solo and co-works like In sync - sung (2017), Ever Losing (2019), Shriller (2022).

Since graduating from the Danish School of Performing Arts (2015) Olivia has been part of the space DANSEatelier that works critically towards alternative modes of production and togetherness in the field of dance. At the moment they collaborate with institutions such as Den Frie Udstillingsbygning and Inkonst in their collective performance format TRIPTYKON.

As dancer/co-choreographer Olivia has worked with artists such as Sara Gebran, Marie Topp, Jules Fisher, Robin Johnsson and Anna Moderato. Together with Karis Zidore, Olivia teaches choreographic sound compositions at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art School of Architecture and the Rhythmic Music Conservatory.
