The Shedd Institute in Eugene concludes its 2024 Theatricals season November 29-December 15 with a 9 performance run of its all-new production of OLIVER!, Lionel Bart’s 1960 musical theatre masterpiece based on Charles Dickens’ 1838 novel, Oliver Twist. The Tony, Olivier and Academy Award-winning show is a heartwarming, uplifting story of the triumph of the human spirit over the darkest moments of the human condition absolutely bursting with memorable songs.The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver Twist, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sykes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.
Oliver! is absolutely bursting with jubilant songs, including "Food, Glorious Food", "Consider Yourself", "You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two," "Where is Love?", "It's A Fine Life", "As Long As He Needs Me", "Reviewing the Situation" and "I'd Do Anything".
