Old Time Jam: Old Christmas to Eighth of January
Schedule
Mon Jan 12 2026 at 06:30 pm to 09:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
Old North Bar | Lexington, KY
Next appearing was Dandy--a Clyde Davenport tune led by Andy--then Sail Away Cindy in Drop D tuning led launched by Keith. Subsequently a slew of tunes ensued including Sandy River Belle, Lost Girl, and then in A--Henry Reed's Texas Newcastle, Tippin' Back the Corn, Five Miles of Elum Wood, and Gunboat. Then it was time for the tune synonymous with Old Christmas revels--Breakin' Up Christmas (Late last week, in the middle of the creek, I saw Santa Claus, washing his feet).
In D now, we played two different versions of Liza Jane followed by Red Prairie Sunset, and Say Old Man (with the second half of the title excised....). The lovely "made up" tune of John Reischman's Salt Spring (not Salt Creek) was next before the group attempted a daring triple tune medley: Sally in the Garden, Waiting for Nancy, and concluding with Twin Sisters. The evening faded gently into Sally in the Turnip Patch.
Come join us January 12, 2026 at 6:30 (Thursday is January 8th, so we shall certainly play that tune). Arrive early for a dinner at Son of a Burger. Take advantage of Old North's happy hour specials administered by the ever-gracious Grace. The Slow Jam will take place this Sunday 1/11 at Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church.
There is another old time this week in town--Thursday, January 8 at 7:00 PM at West Sixth Brewing.
