Printmaking is an ever-evolving medium and can be complicated to define. Woodcut, dating back to 200 BCE, remains popular with contemporary artists. But with advances in commercial printing, printmakers are also embracing new methods and applying them on a smaller scale of image-making. Today, printmakers are even combining new and old techniques, like creating woodcuts with lasers.
Our upcoming show, "Old School New School," aims to take some of the mystery out of printmaking, displaying work from ten Iowa artists using techniques that printmakers have embraced throughout history. This exhibit will also include a display of printmaker tools: woodblock and carving tools, a litho stone, and photopolymer plates, to name a few.
This event is free, and free will donations are encouraged. Drinks and appetizers will be provided.
