About this Event

When the Old Melbourne Gaol was built in the mid-1800s, it dominated the Melbourne skyline as a symbol of authority. Inside the Gaol, dangerous criminals were held alongside petty offenders, the homeless and the mentally ill.

Between 1842 and its closure in 1929 the Gaol was the scene of 133 hangings, including one of Australia’s most infamous citizen: the bushranger Ned Kelly.

Your ticket includes: Self-guided entry to the Old Melbourne Gaol, as well as access to download the audio guide app. Please make sure to pack your headphones!

Add to your visit with guided tours and immersive experiences. Join the charge sergeant on a tour of the cells at the former City Watch House or hear stories of cunning Pr*son escapes on the Escape Artists Tour. (Tours can be purchased as additional add-ons).

The Old Melbourne Gaol is open 10am till 5pm, 7 days a week.

Recommended last entry – 3.30pm
