Family Feast + live music & family friendly activities
Once a derelict site, now known as a vibrant cultural hub-in-a-pub for the Hulme and Moss Side communities, Old Abbey Taphouse has stood for over 100 years.
Following the announcement of the closure of our kitchen last month, we hope to raise £15,000 to convert our now unused kitchen space into a dedicated venue that can host gigs, club nights, community meetings, art programmes and talks, and secure the future of the pub throughout the winter months when our outdoor space is unusable.
This bank holiday family-friendly festival will include an array of live music, DJs with some big headliners to be announced, food traders, market stall and more, with a creative input from promoters such as Earthly Pleasures, Nossa!, Steam Radio, Calm Sessions, Bangers & Mash, Breaking Barz, Raise The Bar, Seamus Presents, Step Ladder Records, Do It Ourselves and more.
If you know the Taphouse, you know that our venue has a rich history as one of the most important establishments in the Manchester inner city area.
In September 1953 it became the catalyst for the breaking of the UK ‘Colour Bar’ law following boxer Len Johnson’s refusal of services which sparked protests throughout the neighbourhood.
As well as live music, community events and a community radio station (Steam Radio), we also dedicate many hours to our charitable projects such as Taphouse TV Dinners - an innovative food and support project, helping some of the most under-served communities by collecting food donations and cook hearty pay-as-you-feel-meals for the community.
If we can raise the £15,000 target we can secure our future are the community hub in a pub you all know and love!
Pay-As-You-Feel Donation Tickets are on sale now.
If like us, you are also feeling the effects of this financial climate, we have a free ticket option available.
Artists, promoters , traders and volunteers can also get involved by contacting [email protected].
*please be aware that some areas of the festival do not allow under 18s.
