About this Event

Tuman’s Tap & Grill celebrates Oktoberfest with an all-day kickoff party on Saturday, September 21, and an ongoing celebration of seasonal beers through Thursday, October 31. The kick-off party features a tapping of six beers, including German-inspired locally produced beers and award-winning Bavarian/German Festbiers and Märzens. All the featured beers are available in limited quantities; new Oktoberfest selections will rotate on the draft list through October 31 (based on consumption).

Oktoberfest food features include an $18 Paulina Meat Market Smoked Thuringer Brat and Oktoberfest Pork Beer Brat Dinner. The brats are served with sauteed cabbage, crispy bacon, and roasted potatoes, plus a side of German mustard (offered daily September 21-October 6, after 4 p.m.).

There is no cover charge to attend. Reservations are not accepted. The Privatbrauerei Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen is served in a $11 half-liter stein only, and the remaining beers are served in two sizes (pricing is $9 for a half liter stein and $17 for a liter stein). There also is a non-alcoholic Oktoberfest on offer (brewed by Wisconsin’s Untitled Art, $6 12-ounce can). See detailed beer information below.

Oktoberfest Kick-Off Party Beers:Hofbräu München, Munich, Germany, Oktoberfestbier, 6.3% ABV

Full-bodied bottom-fermented Lager brewed especially for Oktoberfest since the early 1800s. Light and refreshing with a clean crisp edge and a slight bitterness.

Privatbrauerei Ayinger, Aying, Bavaria, Germany, Oktober Fest-Märzen, 5.8% ABV

This award-winning beer is brewed every March especially for the Oktoberfest season. A rich, golden color with a slightly sweet, malty nose. Medium to full body with a soft dryness from maturation.

Paulaner Brauerei München, Munich, Germany, Oktoberfest Bier, 6% ABV

This bottom-fermented Oktoberfest has been brewed annually since 1818. Strong and golden with the light taste of hops and strong notes of malt.

Hopewell Brewing, Chicago, Illinois, Märzen-Style Oktoberfest, 5.2% ABV

Rich and malty at the beginning but kept in balance with a hint of noble hop spice and a clean,

effortless finish.

WarPigs Brewing USA, Munster, Indiana, Cave of Dreams, Märzen, 5.9% ABV

This medium-bodied Märzen features big malt aromas with a hint of hazelnut on the nose, strong malt at the forefront.

Moderne Dune Brewery, Monte Marzen, Chicago, Illinois, Märzen, 6.0% ABV

Märzen-style Lager with notes of malted caramel and cedar with a dry finish.

Rotating Beers:

3 Floyds Brewing, Munster, Indiana, Munsterfest, Märzen-Style Festbier, 6.2% ABV

A Märzen-Style Festbier brewed with the finest German malted barley, aromatic Bavarian noble hops and traditional lager yeast. This rich malty lager remains true to the tradition of fest beers originally brewed to honor the marriage of Prince Ludwig in 1810.

Old Irving Brewing, Chicago, Illinois, Oktoberfest, Märzen Lager, 5.5% ABV

Märzen Lager brewed with German malts for a malt-driven body with sweet notes of caramel and toffee balanced by a subtle Hallertau Mittelfrüh hopping for a clean, crisp finish.

Temperance Beer Company, Evanston, Illinois, Oktoberfest, Märzen Lager, 5.7% ABV

Crisp and refreshing Märzen Lager with a slightly sweet malt backbone.

Around the Bend Beer, Chicago, Illinois, Oktoberfiesta, Oktoberfest Märzen, 6.0% ABV

Within the span of a month, two of the world’s top cultural events take place; the Oktoberfest beer festival in Germany and Mexico’s Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) celebrations. This beer is a mashup of the two. It’s a traditional Märzen Lager, bursting with sweet caramel and light-toast notes, with additions of fruity Pasilla chili peppers and herbaceous epazote.

Half Acre Beer, Chicago, Illinois, Lager Town, Octoberfest Märzen, 5.7% ABV
Brewed with malted barley. Hints of toffee and nuts; hoppy, floral, and toasty. Ample sweetness balanced by a bitter finish.

Sierra Nevada Brewing, Chico, California, Octoberfest, Festbier, 6.0% ABV

This beer is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Brauerei Gutmann, an iconic German brewer that’s been family-owned since 1707. This classic Festbier is smooth and balanced with biscuity malt flavor and a clean finish.

Miskatonic Brewing, Darien, Illinois, Oktoberfest, Märzen, 6.9% ABV

This amber beauty’s velvety, lightly toasted caramel malt bill is super quaffable with a touch of fruit, then offset by moderate, herbal hop bitterness.

Pipeworks Brewing, Chicago, Illinois, Oktoberfest, 5.3% ABV

This Oktoberfest Lager celebrates a toasty malt sweetness balanced by a spicy hop floral presence. Malt aromas of toasted bread, biscuits, and espresso. Expect a clean and crisp finish.
