Oil Painting from Life - Workshops with Tom Robertson

Working with a clothed model and strong direct light, Tom will guide participants through the stages of building up and modelling form monochromatically in oil paint, with attention to shadow, midtones and highlights- an essential first step towards producing effective portrait painting and creating atmosphere through directed light.
All materials, equipment and light refreshments will be provided - this workshop will take place in our gallery working at easels with seating available. The same workshop will run twice on 13th and 20th November, participants are welcome to book for one or both sessions.

Please note: a live model will be working as part of this workshop session. Two Queens acknowledges that life models are placed in a position of vulnerability, and therefore we require some additional groundrules of trust and respect to be established. We ask that everyone taking part in this sessions agrees to:

- Remember that our models are human beings, and whilst their job requires them to stay still and silent, they are part of the session and group and deserve to be treated with respect and not objectified.

- To be extra mindful when making any comments about the appearance of the model, and to do so only when strictly necessary for the purpose of art-making, remembering that our observations could be hurtful, discriminatory or consitute a micro-agression.

Where we feel these groundrules have not been followed we may give a verbal reminder and in extreme cases may ask a workshop participant to leave the session.
