About this Event
Oil Painting 101: Underpainting & Color (2-Part Workshop)
New to oil painting? This two-session workshop is designed to give you an understanding of how oil paintings are built, what materials you need, and how to work confidently with the medium from day one.
Session One covers the essentials of getting started with oil paint: how to set up your palette, understand your materials, and think through a painting before you dive into color. You'll learn underpainting, blocking in tone and structure first, the way professional oil painters build a piece from the ground up. We'll be working from a still life set up right in front of us, so you'll learn to observe and translate real objects onto canvas from the very first session.
Session Two (one week later, once your underpainting has dried) picks up where you left off, introducing color mixing, layering, and how to bring your still life to life with color.
Whether you've never touched oil paint or you've dabbled and want a stronger foundation, this workshop is built to be approachable. No experience necessary, all materials included.
This is a two-part series. One ticket includes both sessions. Please only register if you can attend both dates.
Session 1: Wednesday, August 19th, 6-8 PM
Session 2: Wednesday, August 26th, 6-8 PM
