...we kept the fire alive while the hunters were out on the plains. When they came back, the women prepared the meat. Then darkness fell, and the long-toothed beasts ruled the night. The fire kept them away.
We gathered around the flames. The hunters mimed the hunt, the drum held the beat. The gestures repeated, grew wider, changed shape.
