O.Henry Hotel Cocktails & Jazz: Sheila Duell

Every Thursday, Artists Dave Fox (piano), Neill Clegg (saxophone, clarinet and flute) and Matt Kendrick (double bass) will be joined by guest vocalists, who cover The Great American Songbook and jazz classics including swing…and modal classics from the late ‘50s to early ‘60s, as well as Brazilian jazz from the early ‘60s.

About the Artist:

A native Hoosier, Sheila started singing professionally as a teenager with a folk quartet, moving to pop duos, trios, and Top 40/Rock road bands until she found her love for singing jazz. She has performed regularly at the Jazz at O.Henry series, including their first Valentine’s Day shows in 2015. She is a graduate of Indiana University, where she studied theatre and French (accounting for the many French songs in her repertoire). Sheila has written music for stage (Dorian), TV and film, and is an award-winning actor and playwright. Ms. Duell is especially proud to be an NC Arts Council Songwriting Fellowship honorée. Her first singing in public since the onset of the pandemic was this past spring in the Piazza Navona in Rome: a spontaneous rendition of “Autumn Leaves” (sung in French) with a fabulous street trio. Singing never felt so good!
