Introduction to Wet Plate Collodion with Elizabeth Kelly.
Create traditional tintype photographs using converted Polaroid Land Cameras
About this Event

This Oh, Snap! workshop will focus on the creation of plein-air tintype photographs. Attendees will make their own 3.5x4.5” tintype images using converted polaroid land cameras and traditional wet plate collodion processing. The tintypes will be processed in a portable photography studio set up on site and can be taken home after the workshop is completed. Participants will also learn about the history and process of tintype photography and be given resources to take with them such as at home instructional guides and contemporary examples of artists using this alternative process.

Elizabeth Kelly is a photographer, art educator, and current MFA candidate at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, PA. Working primarily in traditional and alternative process photographic techniques. Her current in process work features large cyanotype prints on a variety of fabrics, audio visual work, archival photographic manipulation using mordançage, wet and dry plate photography on tin and glass, and collaborative traditional photo workshops using a street box camera that she built. She is interested in exploring expanded access to traditional photo education. Focusing on addressing the importance of art education on early expression and sense of self in children who live in communities with limited access to the arts. Kelly has been working to build a comprehensive traveling traditional photographic studio and workspace so she can expand her educational practice beyond the walls of the darkroom.
